Job Summary: This role is designated for the Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) III who has achieved RCP II expertise on the clinical, departmental and professional level. Employs the use of evidence-based practice, department and service area initiatives, and grows individually as professional. Committed to the Emory Behavioral Standards Committed to the Emory Service Culture Guidelines Provides Patient and Family Centered Care Consistently meets departmental/hospital quality & safety goals Minimum Qualification Requirements: MINIMUM EDUCATION: Bachelors Degree in Respiratory Care or related science required.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:

  • 3 years or greater JUDGEMENT: Employee may work independently under the general direction of their leader.
  • LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION: Currently licensed as an active Respiratory Care Practitioner in the state of Georgia.
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential by the National Board of Respiratory Care.
  • Active membership in American Association of Respiratory Care (AARC) Must have two of the following certifications: ECMO training certification Intubation certification FCCS instructor PALS certification NRP certification AARC Pulmonary Disease Educator AARC Asthma Educator Certificate AARC Pulmonary Rehabilitation certificate
  • Other Requirements (if applicable): BLS required ACLS required for adult critical care within 6 months of hire NPS preferred if working in Special care nursery/NICU ACCS preferred if working in Critical Care CPFT and/or RPFT preferred if working in PFT AE-C preferred if working in the Asthma Clinic
  • Job Duties: Key Responsibility Category: Level of Competency Completes and Maintains all competencies Refers and Guides others in the use of policies and procedures in the clinical setting Assures competence to function if working in new area Assures equipment is functioning properly and is ready for emergent situations; taking items out of service and reporting failures as needed Assists in the education of peers within department Serves as a champion over a project and assists leadership team Serves as a role model for peers
  • Key Responsibility Category: Assumption of Duties Provides mentor level support for respiratory care practitioner I & II Facilitates discussions during complex patient care situations Assists in annual education competency planning as needed Highly competent in clinical areas as appropriate Competent and functions as a Preceptor Must complete Preceptor course Other duties as assigned Competent in 2 of the following critical/specialty care areas: NICU, ICU, ECMO, CVICU, ED, CPET, Pulmonary Rehab,IP(interventional pulmonary) etc.
  • Key Responsibility Category: Service Area Support Responsible for supporting departmental and services area quality Improvement activities Must participate as a super user for annual skill sessions/department related in-services and ongoing staff education Serves as a resource for ventilator management Regularly attends department meetings (75%) Regularly attends in services and educational offerings
  • Key Responsibility Category: Professional Activity Supports the evaluation of new equipment Reviews policies to build a working knowledge of available resources Highly encouraged to attend one professional Local, State or National Respiratory conference every two years Serves as a preceptor/mentor for RCP II level respiratory therapists 20 CEUs required annually
