Description

Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Under the direction of the Utilization Review Manager, supervises and coordinates activities of personnel in the Utilization Review Department, including staff schedules to ensure appropriate department coverage, equitable daily staff assignments, and timely completion of assignments. 2. Provides staff support by overseeing workflows/processes, ensuring job responsibilities and delegated duties are understood. 3. Assist with staff education and implementing new processes/workflows. 4. Assist with staff performance evaluations, creating performance competencies and goals, developing guidance and training for improvement, and maintaining employee personal records. 5. Assist in the hiring process, including development, evaluation and training of new employees as needed. 6. Will assist with monthly staff quality audits to ensure compliance of Emory Healthcares Utilization Review Plan, regulatory guidelines, and department policies and procedures. 7. Will assist with communication between the Hospitals Case Management Department and Utilization Review Department. 8. Provides effective and efficient proactive communication to internal and external customers. 9. Assists with representing the Utilization Review Department by participating in interdisciplinary care rounds, complex care rounds or other committees to improve interdepartmental communication and hospital efficiency. 10. Will assist in collaborative efforts with the Case Management Department, Revenue Cycle, Physician Advisors and other departments. 11. Will understand the Utilization Review Departments and organizations key performance indicators and assist in meeting goals. 12. Builds, maintains and supports a team culture that fosters effective working relationships within a safe working environment. 13. Will take an assignment when warranted. 14. Will perform other duties and tasks as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Must have a valid, active unencumbered Registered Nurse license or temporary permit approved by the Georgia Licensing Board. Bachelor's degree in nursing required, but Master's degree in nursing or related healthcare field preferred. At least 3 years of experience in Utilization Review required. At least 3 years of healthcare experience required. Case Management certification (CCM or ACM) preferred. Leadership experience preferred. Proven ability to coach, mentor, and lead. Demonstrates leadership abilities.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: (Medium Max 25lbs): up to 25 lbs, 0-33% of the work day (occasionally); 11-25 lbs, 34-66% of the workday (frequently); 01-10 lbs, 67-100% of the workday (constantly); Lifting 25 lbs max; Carrying of objects up to 25 lbs; Occasional to frequent standing & walking, Occasional sitting, Close eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing), Physical demands may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.

Environmental exposures include, but are not limited to: Blood-borne pathogen exposure Bio-hazardous waste Chemicals/gases/fumes/vapors Communicable diseases Electrical shock, Floor Surfaces, Hot/Cold Temperatures, Indoor/Outdoor conditions, Latex, Lighting, Patient care/handling injuries, Radiation, Shift work, Travel may be required. Use of personal protective equipment, including respirators, environmental conditions may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.
