Description

  • The Sr Quality Enablement Spec (Coach) is a hands-on leader who partners directly with frontline teams and leaders to build quality improvement capability across Emory Healthcare.
  • This role is not desk-bound - it is about being present where care happens, listening, teaching, and guiding teams in real time
  • Reporting to the Director of Quality Enablement, the Sr Quality Enablement Spec helps embed high reliability and continuous improvement principles into daily practice, strengthening problem-solving skills and fostering a culture of safety and excellence.
  • The coach will be competent in both HRO and Lean principles and will coach Emory leaders and team members across the enterprise - in huddles, QI teams, RCA's, etc. -- to help standardize language, skills, and tools around scientific improvement.
  • The role will also contribute toward building creative, just-in-time educational content and delivery methods.
  • Quality Improvement Coach:
    • Actively coach frontline teams and leaders where care is delivered on units, in huddles, and during improvement work, providing real-time guidance and support; specifically support other members of the Office of Quality team in their roles as improvement team facilitators and outcome owners
    • Offer on-demand expertise in the science of improvement
    • Mentor socratically with the goal of developing critical scientific thinking alongside problem solving to produce desired outcomes
    • Provide on-demand analysis of progress of QI teams; identify and help fill gaps in knowledge and skills of QI team leaders and members
  • Strategic Thinker and Program Manager:
    • Help design and manage a platform, process and tools for soliciting, selecting, supporting and tracking QI projects across the system to reduce redundancy and facilitate organizational learning; may include system administration for appropriate software; analyze aggregate QI project outcomes and report on impact and strategic alignment.
  • Quality Improvement and Education:
    • Help identify, coordinate and manage additional resources to assist in filling resource gaps in QI work, for example, Emory University student interns or fellows, capstone projects, instructional design resources, education technology resources, etc.
    • Assess learning needs and deliver just-in-time education in practical, accessible ways
    • Teach improvement methods in language that connects to clinical practice, using examples relevant to patient care
    • Influence without authority through demonstrated expertise and supportive, respectful partnering; understand and model Emory's four cultural beliefs (One-Emory, People-Centered, Lead Change, Own It) in all professional interactions
    • Help shift thinking and behaviors through education, structures, and tools; champion a culture of continuous learning and the goal of Zero Harm
  • Additional Duties as Assigned
  • Travel: Travel between Operating Units will be required
  • Work Type: Hybrid employee - splits time between working remotely and working in the office

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education - Bachelor's degree in nursing, public health, healthcare administration, organizational development, industrial engineering, education, or a related field
  • Experience - 6 years of documented progression in QI/PI teaching, coaching, mentoring, facilitating

Knowledge, skills, and abilities (required):

  • Proven experience coaching improvement teams with measurable impact
  • Strong background in QI principles (HRO, Quality & Safety, RCA) and PI principles (Lean, IHI Model for Improvement, PDSA, Six Sigma)
  • Experience in healthcare settings and familiarity with clinical improvement cultures
  • Project Management Skills
  • Coaching and facilitating teams
  • Dynamic Classroom instructor
  • Root cause analysis

Preferred Qualifications Education

  • Master's Degree in nursing, public health, healthcare administration, organizational development, industrial engineering, education, or a related field
  • Experience - 10 years of documented progression in QI/PI teaching, coaching, mentoring, facilitating

  • MS Visio or other process mapping tools
