NATIONAL DIRECTOR, FIELD MEDICAL

POSITION SUMMARY:

The National Director, Field Medical will provide visionary leadership and strategic direction for Day One’s Field Medical Affairs team. This role is accountable for developing and leading a high-performing, externally focused, and strategically aligned MSL organization. The Director will ensure the team operates as a proactive scientific partner, delivering impactful KOL engagement, actionable insights, and meaningful contributions to overarching asset strategies.The successful candidate will have proven experience leading and inspiring field medical teams, fostering cross-functional collaboration, and ensuring execution against both strategic and tactical medical affairs goals. This position reports to the Vice President, Medical Affairs.

This position has the potential to be fully remote. Occasional travel will be required for in person meetings.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Drive alignment of the Field Medical team to Day One’s Medical Affairs vision, ensuring the team operates as a strategic partner and delivers measurable external impact
  • Translate Medical Affairs strategy into clear field execution, ensuring proactive, insight-driven KOL engagement
  • Recruit, develop, and coach MSLs, fostering scientific excellence, value-based engagement, and accountability for execution
  • Establish clear engagement goals, performance metrics, and progression criteria; monitor regularly and course-correct as needed
  • Promote a culture of urgency, creativity, and innovation in scientific engagement, aligned with Day One’s core values
  • Ensure the team develops and executes tailored pre-engagement plans for all priority KOLs and ensure delivery of proactive, compliant scientific exchange supported by in-field materials and aligned with strategic objectives
  • Foster strong cross-functional collaboration with Commercial, Clinical, and Market Access colleagues, ensuring joint account and territory planning where appropriate
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to ensure insights from the field directly inform medical strategy, evidence generation, and clinical development priorities
  • Represent Field Medical leadership in enterprise-wide planning and strategic discussions
  • Ensure compliant, consistent documentation of field activities and insights
  • Model and enforce high standards of integrity, compliance, and scientific credibility
  • Up to 40% travel, including overnight travel

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Advanced medical and/or scientific degree (e.g., MD / DO, PhD, PharmD) - Doctorate level training highly preferred
  • 10+ years in medical affairs within the pharmaceutical or biotech industry, with at least 5 years of management experience and in-field management experience
  • At least 5 years of industry experience in oncology
  • Proven ability to lead and inspire teams through transformation, fostering accountability, urgency, and innovation
  • Demonstrated success in product launch and/or work on commercial assets, particularly in oncology or specialty therapeutics
  • Proven track record of cross-functional collaboration, influencing without authority, and building bridges across HQ and field
  • Excellent communication, leadership presence, and ability to distill complex science into clear, compelling dialogue.
  • Deep experience in KOL engagement, insight generation, and integration of field insights into strategy
  • Understanding of Health Economic & Payer Access needs expected

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

The salary range for this position is $290,000 - $315,000. Day One considers a range of factors when determining base compensation. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary.
