We’re seeking a Food Service Assistant I to join our Nutrition Services team at Wilmington Hospital. In this essential role, you’ll help ensure patients receive safe, accurate, and high-quality meals while supporting a clean and efficient kitchen environment.

Position Details

Title: Food Service Assistant I
Location: Wilmington Hospital
Type: Part-Time (24 hours/week)

Schedule & Hours

Business Hours: 5:30 AM – 7:30 PM
Primary Shifts:

  • 11:00 AM – 7:30 PM
  • 3:45 PM – 7:30 PM

Additional shifts may include:

  • 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM
  • 6:45 AM – 3:15 PM

*Weekend & Holiday Rotation Required

**Must be able to work a combination of all shifts

What You’ll Do

  • Assemble patient meals accurately and efficiently according to menu and dietary guidelines
  • Support tray line operations, dish room, sanitation, and kitchen assignments
  • Ensure proper portioning, tray setup, and meal presentation
  • Follow therapeutic diet requirements and distinguish between regular and modified diets
  • Maintain food safety standards, including temperature control and cross-contamination prevention
  • Uphold sanitation and safety standards in compliance with federal, state, and organizational regulations
  • Demonstrate a “patients come first” mindset in every interaction

What You Bring

  • Food service experience preferred
  • Understanding of basic food safety and sanitation practices
  • Ability to follow procedures and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
  • Team-oriented mindset with a positive, service-driven attitude

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift, push, and pull throughout your shift
  • Comfortable working in kitchen and patient care environments
  • Ability to follow infection prevention and safety protocols

This position has a starting rate of $17.32 per hour, regardless of prior experience. After six months of continuous employment, the hourly rate will automatically increase to $20.34 per hour. After one year of continuous employment, the hourly rate will automatically increase to $21.34 per hour.This pay rate/range represents ChristianaCare’s good faith and reasonable estimate of compensation at the time of posting. The actual salary within this range offered to a successful candidate will depend on individual factors including without limitation skills, relevant experience, and qualifications as they relate to specific job requirements.
