PRIMARY FUNCTION:

The Senior Social Worker II-MSW (Mental Health Professional) will support the Newark Police Department protect and Connect Program and will serve as a liaison among providers, hospitals, peer counselors, and

people seeking treatment for and addressing their mental health needs.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ride along, at least 20 hours a week with an identified police officer to assist with alleviating crisis situations and coordinating the transfer of services to a qualified mental health individual or organization once the crisis is resolved.
  • Develop, coordinate, and implement plans to address the needs of those with mental illness or dual diagnosis of mental illness and substance use disorder who experiencing a crisis.
  • Document on forms and the newly integrated case management database the services provided.
  • Attend any mandatory trainings and regularly scheduled meetings to help develop and manage the program.
  • Collect data and develop reports as required.
  • Oversee and review MHP cases to ensure appropriate procedures are followed on both assessments and referrals.
  • Conduct oversite as necessary to maintain licensing/continuing education for MHP.
  • Assist in developing and carrying out department wide training.
  • Bi-weekly case reviews/case notes
  • Uphold all rules and regulations governing mental health confidentiality.
  • Provide mental health services and clinical responsibilities consistent with education, training and professional experience.
  • Complete mental health assessments in format required by the facility for offenders referred based on intake process, staff referral or offender self-referral.
  • Provide regular follow-up to assigned offenders to determine current mental status and functioning.
  • Convene regular stakeholder discussions surrounding project implementation.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders: Delaware Division of Substances Abuse and Mental Health (DSAMH), Northeast Treatment Center (NET DETOX), Delaware Department of Justice, and NAMI (NATIONAL ALLIANCE ON MENTAL ILLNESS).
  • Performs assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices; reports to supervisor, in a timely manner, any unsafe activities, conditions, hazards, or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself, other employees, patients and visitors.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

SCOPE, PURPOSE, AND FREQUENCY OF CONTACTS:

Works as part of a team with the Newark Police Department Connect and Protect Program.

Frequent contact with ChristianaCare Community Health Impact Department.

Daily contact with persons who have or may have mental health needs/SUD and their families.

Frequent contact and collaboration with treatment providers, public safety agencies, and community groups.

Occasional community education and targeted outreach.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Master’s degree in a recognized mental health field.

An LPC or LCSW is preferred.

CADC/CAADC certification is preferred but not required.

A minimum of five years or more of experience in the field.

Background in addiction treatment, outreach, re-engagement, and understanding of law enforcement policy and procedures.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to apply ethical and legal principles to the treatment of offenders with mental health problems in a correctional setting, ensuring that offenders receive appropriate mental health care.

Knowledge of all HIPAA, OSHA, and PREA requirements to ensure compliance with all Federal and State laws, regulations and guidelines.

Must possess strong public speaking skills.

Must possess project management and data management skills.

Must possess research and analytical skills.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must have flexibility to work a rotating shift and assist with covering on-call responsibilities.

Must submit weekly invoice for hours completed.

Must comply with all security regulations and directives of the NPD.

Must be able to represent the program at community events that occur during the evening or weekend.

Hourly Pay Range: $30.34 - $48.55This pay rate/range represents ChristianaCare’s good faith and reasonable estimate of compensation at the time of posting. The actual salary within this range offered to a successful candidate will depend on individual factors including without limitation skills, relevant experience, and qualifications as they relate to specific job requirements.
