We are searching for a General Laboratory Supervisor to work in the Helen F. Graham Cancer Center. The hours are Monday – Friday 7:30AM to 4PM. There are no requirements to work weekends or holidays. The supervisor will manage a laboratory that supports the patients of the Cancer Center and consists of 4 Medical Technologists, a Specimen Processing clerk and 8 phlebotomists.

Qualifications:

  • BS, Medical Technology

  • Minimum of three years medical technology experience.

  • Minimum of one year supervisory experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

(ASCP) or equivalent

Principal duties and responsibilities:

  • Assists the Director in the supervision of the activities of the MLS I, Phlebotomy staff, and Specimen Processor. Monitors all workflow and makes appropriate changes to ensure effective utilization of personnel ensuring that committed turnaround times are met.

  • Reviews and validates abnormal laboratory test results, assessing plausibility of results through correlation of data with common physiological conditions or patient systems most specifically as related to oncology. Consults with Technical Specialist as needed.

  • Reviews quality control data and consults with respective technical specialists, physician directors, and QA coordinator on any unacceptable trends.

  • Develops schedule and daily work assignments to ensure effective utilization of personnel, ensuring coverage during all hours, with minimal overtime.

  • In conjunction with Technical Specialists, evaluates personnel of the section in accordance with defined standards of performance.

  • Monitors caregiver time and attendance daily.

  • Implements and monitors appropriate safety precautions and addresses all safety-related issues for both laboratory staff and patients receiving lab services at the HFG Cancer Center. Ensures all safety- related training is completed.

  • Performs coaching sand disciplinary actions as necessary under direction of the Director.

  • In conjunction with the Director, is responsible for preparation and CAP inspection of the two lab sites at the HFGCC.

  • Holds regular staff meetings setting agendas in conjunction with the Director.

  • In conjunction with lab leadership develops technical and non-technical quality improvement indicators, collection of data, interpretation of results and trending of statistics. Writes or modifies and updates existing technical and non-technical guidelines and procedures to make them applicable to the HFG working environment.

  • Investigates all Safety-First Learning Reports, Patient and Physician complaints.

  • Monitors and audits processes for specimen identification, retention and retrieval. Performs all requirements of MLS I, Phlebotomy Specialist and Specimen Processor.

Hourly Pay Range: $41.28 - $66.05This pay rate/range represents ChristianaCare’s good faith and reasonable estimate of compensation at the time of posting. The actual salary within this range offered to a successful candidate will depend on individual factors including without limitation skills, relevant experience, and qualifications as they relate to specific job requirements.
