ChristianaCare is searching for a Medical Laboratory Scientist to perform/support Point of Care Testing (POCT) test procedures on the laboratory approved POCT test menu and associated activities to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. In addition, the MLS will support acute hospital and ambulatory POCT activities of non-laboratorians across the system, as needed.
This is a Full-time Flex position, and the works hours are Day Shift, 7:00am - 3:30pm. No weekends or holidays at this time.
Responsibilities:
Performs all test procedures accurately as listed in the POCT procedure manual.
Able to validate, set-up, install and maintain all POCT devices and software supported by the system.
Follows established quality control procedures, documenting corrective action as necessary.
Collaborates with Nursing colleagues to ensure accuracy and reliability of POCT test systems.
Presents educational material to key stakeholders. Good oral and written communication skills are essential for the role. Assists with initial, six-month training and/or annual competency (as appropriate), along with completion of documentation for new employees, POCT superusers and/or POCT end-users.
Orders, maintains and distributes supplies for training, QC and/or competency assessments.
Coordinates POCT proficiency testing performance and reporting (as required) for the organization. Reviews proficiency results and facilitates corrective actions, as appropriate.
Conducts review (at appropriate intervals) of temperature, humidity and QC records created and maintained by POCT sites/nursing units.
Participates in coordination of annual operator POCT competency through Learning Space.
Performs and records all scheduled instrument preventive maintenance procedures.
Follows all ChristianaCare and laboratory safety policies. Reviews laboratory safety manual annually.
Cooperates with colleagues and maintains a good rapport/positive interactions with other departments. Presents a professional, well-groomed appearance at all times. Willing and able to travel/work at any campuses/outpatient locations, as directed.
Answers the telephone courteously and promptly. Provides troubleshooting guidance/advice to POCT end-users regarding POCT equipment and processes. Investigates and facilitates repair and return/replacement of POCT devices to the manufacturer, as applicable. Maintains record of communications/correspondence with vendor technical support.
Education Requirements:
BS in Medical Technology or Medical Laboratory Science
BS in a chemical, physical, biological science
