We are hiring a Trauma Registrar to obtain, interpret, and abstract data in trauma registry with the objective accurately coding injury and procedural coding, of guiding performance improvement and care management, and positively impacting patient outcomes.

- This position provides extensive training and certifications in the following areas: Trauma Registry Course- American Trauma Society; ICD-10 Trauma Injury Coding Course American Trauma Society; Abbreviated Injury Scale (AIS) Course and Certification- Association for the Advancement of Automotive Medicine (AAAM)
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assesses appropriate inclusion/exclusion of data based on National Trauma Data Standards.
Attains and maintains proficiency in data abstraction and entry.
Reviews and interprets inpatient, diagnostic, operative, emergency medicine, or other patient records to assign appropriate ICD-10 injury and procedure codes.
Performs coding and abstraction tasks to support data quality and statistics, for calculation of injury severity scoring, and for risk for mortality reporting.
Applies information on diagnostic reports (i.e. radiology, pathology, EKG reports, laboratory values, and operative reports) to accurately code injuries and procedures in the trauma registry database in accordance with ICD-10 and AIS coding guidelines.
Abstracts pertinent data, determines and sequences codes for injury diagnoses and procedures, and enters all information into the trauma registry.
Organizes a work plan to achieve assigned project goals or implements an established work plan; makes suggestions to improve efficiency of work.
Routinely reviews medical records to verify quality measures are met and identifies open care gaps.
Attains and maintains proficiency in quality measure definitions and how this applies other duties.
Evaluates and maintains clear documentation of project achievements based on established goals.
Assists in the identification of issues with data collection methods; assures methods for collection meet/exceed accreditation, regulatory, and institutional standards.
Performs data validations as assigned within the required time frame.
REQUIREMENTS:
Associate's degree required; degree in Health Information Management or Medical Coding preferred.
Two years clerical/administrative experience in Acute Care setting required.
Two years of experience working with trauma registry preferred.
Strong knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy required.
Experience using the electronic health record preferred.
Knowledge of or experience in any of the following is preferred: data abstraction and entry into a registry database, clinical experiences in patient care processes, ICD-10 coding, AIS injury coding, performance improvement, physiology and disease processes.
Schedule: This is a full time day shift position.
Hourly Pay Range: $22.29 - $33.44This pay rate/range represents ChristianaCare’s good faith and reasonable estimate of compensation at the time of posting.
