This individual will demonstrate the skills of strong leadership to advance utilization of clinical information systems consistent with the goals and objectives of the organization's clinical and strategic initiative. Our CNIO will report to the CNE and VP of Electronic Health Record Transformation, as well as work in close partnership with the Chief Digital and Information Officer, the Chief Medical Information Officer, IT staff and leadership, Nursing staff and leadership, and the ChristianaCare Health System leadership team to provide the vision and strategy for clinical information systems across the enterprise. Principal duties and responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and vision for nursing informatics to support patient/family centered care.

  • Promote the organization’s nursing professional practice model through nursing informatics, documentation transformation and workflow redesign.

  • Analyze complex clinical operations, organizational structures, and care processes to facilitate decision making regarding nursing transformation.

  • Utilize the knowledge and skills of clinical practice to determine clinical functions that are suitable for computer applications and ensure information systems are consistent with clinical workflow and professional standards of nursing and allied health professional practice.

  • Represent and lead the nursing component of the Epic EHR implementation, including planning, deployment, and ongoing optimization.

  • Provide leadership into the development and oversight of clinical application enhancement to ensure that the improvement efforts are coordinated and aligned with organizational goals.

  • Facilitate the development and implementation of a shared decision-making nursing informatics council.

  • Collaborate with the VP nursing professional development, nursing professional development specialists and other training professionals to assure adequate training and education for clinical staff on the computer applications used in the delivery of patient care.

Education and experience requirements:

  • Master's degree in Nursing or Management Information Systems from an accredited college or university is required. If the Master's degree is not in Nursing, the Bachelor's degree must be in nursing.
  • A doctoral degree (PhD/EdD/DNP) is preferred.
  • Formal training and education in Nursing or Clinical Informatics.
  • Minimum of 7 years related informatics experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of clinical experience.
  • Prior experience as a nurse leader responsible for multiple clinical projects, large multi-faceted projects and/or nursing leadership.
  • Direct, hands-on experience leading clinical informatics projects, including implementation, redesign or process work, with tangible demonstrated results.
  • Previous experience in managing performance improvement activities, clnical data management and workflow design preferred.
  • Recent experience with Epic.
  • Recent experience with Information technology management.
  • Knowledge of the Magnet journey preferred,
